Can I Take Nursing Courses In High School to Prepare for College?
This is a difficult question to answer, because each college will vary on their classes and curriculum, and each state will also have different requirements for licensure. So I cannot give a specific answer to this question. Instead, I would just like to provide some general guidelines, and help point you in the right direction.
What Classes Can Help You In High School?
I took Anatomy in high school, and that was about the only nursing-related class available. While it helped give me a good introduction for my college classes, it did NOT count towards a credit. But it still was very helpful, and I would strongly recommend that if you plan on a career in nursing, take as many classes in high school as you can that are related to nursing.
I am unsure of whether or not your high school offers any of these type of classes, but if so, I would recommend taking them. A good place to start would be your guidance counselor! They are there to help ensure you get the classes you need for graduation, and they also help with getting you accepted into college.
Your school guidance counselor may also be able to tell which local universities offer classes that you can go ahead and take at the high school level, so you won’t have to bother with them after you graduate high school and enter college.
Another great resource to check out would be the nursing school or college you plan to attend after graduation. Many colleges and universities will publish their class schedules and graduation requirements online, and you may be able to see if any classes would be available for high school students, or if any high school courses would count as a course credit in college.
You can even contact many local nursing colleges and directly speak with an adviser or teacher regarding this matter.
