Will I need to Wear a Back Brace as a Nurse?

I know this may be a really random question but will I need to buy a back brace for when I start working as a nurse. I know a nurse who is fairly young (about 35 years old) and she where a back brace to help “save” her back. Are they really helpful and are they comfortable? Will I be able to wear one for a whole 12 hour shift? Thanks in advance.

Linda

I have never worn one but have considered it. At the end of many of my 12 hour shifts I would go home with a terrible back ache and would have to take Tylenol to relieve it or i wouldn’t able to sleep. If I could go back I would wear one. So yes I recommend it.

Um..not really just use good body mechanics and get help lifting people and you should be fine. Some people are just at more of a risk for back problems.

Jamie I see what your saying but isnt using a back brace like you are using good body mechanics because it discourages you from putting strain on it? I say try it and if it doesnt work sell it in a yard sale or ebay it.
