Salaries of Different Specialties

I am currently planning on entering the nursing world, but am unsure on a specialty. There are a myriad of things I am interested in, if I were to become an RN, which specialty would have a higher annual salary?

Hey Kiley! Welcome to the site and thanks for your question. Nursing specialties that tend to have the highest pay are critical areas such as the ICU, cath lab, PICU, NICU etc. Also, travel nursing can pay really good as well. I know nurses who have got on with travel agencies and took jobs in assigned locations making up to $50-70 an hour (plus the agency pays for their travel and hotel stay).

Here is a list of nursing specialties that include job descriptions, job requirements, and annual salaries:

If you are wanting to make the most money out of nursing avoid areas such as school nursing, clinics, or long term care facilities. These are low paying jobs. Try to get on at companies that are known to pay well like the VA or any government agencies.

Plus if you work night shift you will make a lot more money than the day shift nurse. Where I work it is like a $5 difference. So if your a night owl like me I would do it.
