iSearch Paper- Why Be a Registered Nurse?

Shay, thank you so much for your question…and so sorry about the delay. School has been totally and utterly crazy. I feel flattered that you picked me to answer these questions.

“Why did you want to be in the nursing field?”  This question is easy for me to answer. I wanted to be in the nursing field because I ABSOLUTELY love helping people. I feel God bless with a caring and loving attitude towards people who need to be helped. I find it so fulfilling that my job lets me make an impact on the world. In a way I feel like I’m able to leave my mark on the world by hopefully helping individuals get a second second chance at life. Plus I feel I have the best job in the world because I get to be with people during the most vulnerable moments. And what is so crazy about all this is that I get paid to do something I love!

“What type of nursing are you in?” I’m actually still a nursing student until May 9, 2009…..woohoo but I’m going into cardiac nursing. However, I want to try everything really. I feel my heart is in community based-nursing such as home health and clinic nursing. I will probably do this when I’m in my late 30s. I would also like to teach health science to high school students because you can with a BSN-RN. The great thing about nursing is that you can do whatever you want….there are so many options!

“How many years of school does it take?” It has taken me 4 years of college to get my BSN in nursing. It takes some 2 years of college to get a ADN in nursing…..so it really depends on what path you choose. I have to say I’m glad the 4 years are coming to an end….I’m so over school! Especially completing all of these care plans.
“What do you need to become a nurse?” In order for me to become a nurse I had to take all of the college requirements in high school in order to prepare for college. I then had to do 2 years of undergraduate core classes before I was accepted into nursing school. Then I completed 2 years of nursing school. After that I have to pass a test called the NCLEX-RN to become licensed as a nurse. When you graduate with a degree in nursing you are not a nurse until you pass your NCLEX.
Shay, good luck with your research paper. I hope I helped you out! Thank you so much for your question and if you ever have any more questions don’t hesitate to hit me up!
Until next time,
Sarah 😉
