My First Job as a Registered Nurse | Registered Nurse RN Career

Hey Everyone,

I have just been dying to release the news on my new job BUT I didn’t want to just yet until everything was finalized because of the last mishap….remember I was told I had the job as the nurse intern and I just needed to sign the paper work but I never heard a word back and it turned out the position was given to someone else. I was really bummed out about it but it looks like God’s plan was a little different and it turns out to be better than I expected.

My First Job as a Registered Nurse

So here is the story: Well you know I’m doing my clinicals on a ICU step-down cardiac unit…right?! I was speaking with the clinical nurse manager who manages the floor and she told me to contact the nurse recruiter so me and her could set-up an interview. I told her I loved her floor and would like to work there if she had any positions open. I was a little nervous that she didn’t have any positions open because in December she hired 3 new nurse graduates and I didn’t think she would be hiring anymore for a while but thankfully she was. So the next day I called the nurse recruiter and she scheduled the interview for us. So last Thursday I had the interview and it went great! At the end of the interview she told I had the position but she wanted me to go home and think about it for a day and to call her back if I wanted the job. Of course I called her back the next day and told her I accepted!! Today the nurse recruiter called me and confirmed that I had the job and schedule me to have orientation on March 16th. I’m so excited!!! 🙂

I am going to start working as a nurse intern 1 then once I graduate in May I will get bumped up to a nurse Intern 4 (which includes a nice raise) and after I take the NCLEX and pass I get RN income (which is definitely a nice raise). I am so happy! I was nervous about getting a job because I hear about all the job cuts and how some nurses are having a hard time finding work. Actually, the two major hospitals where I live cut some jobs but it was jobs that weren’t patient care related (so nurse, doctors, and nursing assistants were safe) but I was still nervous. I just wanted to share the good news with everyone!

School has been going great! Graduation is creeping up and so is that darn exit HESI test. It’s March 27! Everyone pray for me about that one. I have been studying for it so hopefully it will pay off. My clinicals have been going great. I love them. I am getting good with my patient and family communication. I am also finally getting the hang of all the charting that is involved. The key is to not leave anything blank! Overall, school is going great. I hope everyone is doing good! Once I get doing writing this post I am going to get off here and play some catch-up because last week was a super busy week. I didn’t have one day off…I had something to do everyday so now I need to complete some assignments.

Here is the outlook for this week: Monday (today) off, Tuesday (off) need to do some assignments and study for HESI, Wednesday class (8-11am last class cancelled…our instructor gave us an online assignment instead), Thursday (I’m with the House Supervisor at the hospital 545am-615pm), Friday (off), Saturday (off), Sunday (off). Overall, the week looks very good!

Until next time,

Sarah 😉
