How to Make Country Homemade Cornbread

This recipe is on how to make homemade country style golden cornbread. This recipe is very simple to make! It calls for ingredients that can be found right now in your kitchen.

Cornbread is a great side for a main meal. Most people like to eat cornbread with soup beans or chili. Cornbread is best served with butter spread or your favorite jelly. Here are the ingredients you will need for the cornbread and below is how to make it.

Ingredients for Golden Cornbread:

  • 2 eggs slightly beaten

  • 1 cup of Milk

  • 1/4 cup Vegetable Oil or shortening

  • 1 1/2 cup of Self-Rising Corn Meal Mix

  • 1 cup of All Purpose Flour

  • 1 cup of Sugar (optional- use if you want your cornbread sweet)

First preheat the oven to 450’F. Grease an 8-inch square pan. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients listed about. Be sure to mix all of the ingredients thoroughly.

Pour the mixture into the greased pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until done. Tip- to tell if cornbread is done use a toothpick and stick the middle of the cornbread and if it comes back clean this means its done. Then ENJOY!

Country cornbread tastes great with a home-cooked meal. It also takes great mixed into soups and stews. Some nurses bring stews and soups in on holidays for the other workers, and this is definitely a great side dish for that occasion.
