Getting Prepared for Clinicals in Nursing School

I am getting prepared for nursing school clinicals.I finally went and got my TB skin test for clinicals. I had already planned on getting it done and figured I could even do it during the first week of school since we really don’t start our clinicals until the second week.

Completing my Requirement for Clinicals in Nursing School

But I got an email from the nursing school telling me that I needed to turn in my TB skin test update and nursing insurance ASAP before the semester begins. So I went today and got it done. It was easy as pie.

I went to the health clinic at school because they offer great rates for students, especially since I don’t have health insurance (waiting to become a Registered Nurse RN to afford that expense). Hopefully since I will be a nurse, I will have good health insurance and good nursing income.

They got me right in and I was done in about 5 minutes. It was only $5.00 and I have to go back in 48-72 hours to see if I had a reaction. It all looks really good right now. I would die if I did have tuberculosis lol!

When the nurse gave me the injection in my forearm, I didn’t feel anything just like last time but it really bubbled up this time. It hardly bubbled up last time. It looked really freaky….like a knot in my skin. However, it is now back to normal and slightly red. I have never got to give a TB test injection yet and I probably won’t get too.

Giving my First Shot in Nursing School

They only place I got to was with a dummy in lab class but it is different with a real person….. trust me on that one. The first IM (intramuscular) shot I gave was to a man in his deltoid for the flu vaccine. He was extremely skinny and his arms were really thin. My professors said that in lab class that you might hit the bone in skinny people when giving these shots because they have less fat and muscle.

They said it is rare but it can happen. Well it did with me on my first IM. It was really weird but he didn’t say anything he actually said “are you already done because I didn’t even feel that” which was a relief. I like giving subq’s better, especially insulin!

After I went and got my TB test, I vowed to myself that I was going to clean the apartment because it was dirty and dusty. Well I only got 2 rooms done but tomorrow the other 2 will get done hopefully! I think my favorite thing about fall time is not only the beautiful turning of the leaves and crisp cool mornings but the new TV series starting back.

It stinks that all summer you have to wait for your favorite TV shows to come back on. You think that since people have more time on their hands during the summer they would have TV series on then instead of fall. Oh well though…it gives me something to look forward to and something to take my mind off the stresses of school. My favorite shows I watch are Ugly Betty, Smallville & Friday Night Lights.

Also, there is this new show coming on the CW called The Privileged that looks really good. It is starring the girl who played Cheyenne on Reba. Hopefully it will be good and they won’t cancel it like they did another show I watched called New Amsterdam.
