Best Books for the HESI Exam Preparation? Registered Nurse RN

Hey Everyone,

I hope everyone is doing wonderfully! I received another “ask me a question” and this question comes from Jenna. Here is what she asked:

“Hi sarah. I am also in nursing school in Oregon. It is very difficult and half of the time I don’t know if I am coming or going. I like your site and find it enlightening. Thanks. My question is: We are scheduled to take a Hesi exam in march we just found out today. I am scared. I know that we have to pass this before we can graduate and it is a predictor for the Nclex. I wrote down the books that you recommended, but is there one that you can recommend for the Hesi. I want to be prepared and also keep from being embarrassed. Thanks Jenna”

Best Hesi Exam Preparation Book & Study Guide

Jenna, I apologize for the little time delay it took be to get back to you….I’ve been slammed schedule-wise. I bet you know exactly what I’m talking about….the wonderful life of a future Registered Nurse. I think we are in the same year of nursing school! Can’t wait to graduate! As you probably have already read I am too also having to take the HESI in March. March 27th to be exact. I also have to pass it in order to graduate…..no pressure right?! It’s just my college career on the line here…no big deal haha.

So you asked what book should you use to study for the HESI? I suggest using the book made by HESI. HESI is like a mock NCLEX-Rn exam so any NCLEX book will work to help you study. I suggest in order to get the most out of studying is to practice at least 50-100 practice questions a day and review the rationals at the end. Our school suggest doing 3,000 question prior to the HESI exam.

Here are the books I recommend that you get to help prepare you for the HESI in March and here are links to amazon.com so you can see the prices of them (if you purchase these in a bookstore they may be about $5-10 more in price):

  • This is the book made by HESI-> Evolve Reach Testing and Remediation Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN® Examination (Evolve Reach Testing & Remediation Comprehensive Review)
  • KaplanNCLEX-RN Exam 2010 with CD-ROM: Strategies for the Registered Nursing Licensing Exam

I suggest you for sure get the HESI book made by the HESI people. I have been reading it and it is super helpful. It contains HESI hints which are very helpful and it shows you what to focus on. Plus, it has a CD practice test that contains 550 practice questions on it. Also, its made by HESI who are the people who make the test so it would be in your benefit to get it. I wish I would have used it for my mid-curricular HESI because it probably would have helped me increase my score. Be sure to check out my HESI study log!

Jenna, I wish you much luck in taking your test and I hope you pass the first try. Keep me up-dated! Thank you for your question and I hope I helped you out. If you have any more questions don’t hesitate to ask 🙂

Sarah 😉
