Today I had my clinical for the care of the older adult which I think I am going to really like. I got assigned my patient today who I will have for the next 5 weeks. Keep in mind I am at a nursing home right now so I will have the same pt because the patients there really don’t leave. My patient is really great.
My Experience with Care Plans in Nursing School!
However, I really dread having to do the nursing care plans. Nursing CARE PLANS stink! They are really time consuming. During my first semester in nursing school, I had heard the horror of care plans. I am telling you they take forever to complete. I just wonder how much I will use them when I’m a real Registered Nurse RN.
However, luckily for you I have created a nursing care plans example page with care plans. Check out the page for tips on how to put a care plan together and nursing care plan samples.
This things cover everything from patient history, vital signs, lab values, nursing diagnosis, outcomes, full body assessment, nurses notes, complete medication list (including drug interactions, the med’s function on a freaking CELLULAR level, route of administration…etc), present diagnosis, social-economic status, and that is just to name a few things.
I am not kidding…it literally takes me about 6-8 hours to complete one. Everyone hates them but supposedly they are suppose to help us become better nurses and get us thinking like one.
My day began at 5:45 am this morning. I went to clinicals which lasted from 7am-2pm. Then I went to school and picked up my finanical aid check. I had to park about a mile away and walk from my car to there in 90′ degree weather with scrubs on.
I was sweating so bad and thought I was going to die of a heat stroke. Then I got home finally and started studying for my class I have tomorrow. This class has unannounced quizzes (hate when they do that) so I have to keep on top of the material.
The stuff I am studying right now about the older adult is what I learned in foundations. I am just reading about vision problems (glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration…etc) & hearing problems. Also, the difference among long term care places and the wonder government programs Medicare & Medicaid.
Can’t wait for the weekend. Also next week is my birthday (WOOT)! I am going to be the big 21. I can’t wait to see what Mister Ben has planned for me. I will definitely be posting some pictures of my b-day so check back. It is the 10th on Wednesday!
Until next time………..
