So happy I found this site. I have a question for everyone on how you studied for the NCLEX-RN exam. I am going to be taking the NCLEX-RN exam this June. Gulp! I am so nervous to say the least, just like most nursing grads. How did you study? Did you just do practice questions over and over and if so how many questions did you do and what book did you use? Also, let me know if you passed first try.
Thanks
Missy soon to be RN (I hope) 🙂
This question was asked in the nursing forum section.

I passed my first try with 75 questions. I was so happy it shut off at 75. I have heard of people having to take the whole thing which I think is 200 and some questions. I studied by using the Saunders comprehensive NCLEX-RN guide which comes with a lot of practice questions. I practiced the questions every day except Sundays for several months before. Don’t stress about it because it really isn’t that bad. Good luck girl!
Here is the study guide I used. You can find it on Amazon.

Yep I practice questions over and over until I literally never wanted to answer another nursing question again. I used Sanders and Kaplan. Both are good books that the majority of nursing graduates use. I passed on the first try. I can’t remember how many questions I had though.

I also take the NCLEX this summer. I graduate in May. I am so glad you asked this question Missy. Has any one ever tried those review courses that guarantee your money back if you fail?
Lynda says
I never took the review course. I had a friend who did and she still failed the first time so I don’t think it worked. Yes she did get her money back. If you take the review course seriously and still study hard on top of the review course (don’t think that you can just take the review course and not study) then it will work. They are fairly expensive though so watch out for that.

I just took the RN NCLEX May 12, 2014 and passed the first try with 75 questions. My school provided Kaplan four day course for us to review with and I already had purchased the Kaplan book. I used the Saunders book, 6th edition and did questions daily and reviewed content that I was weak in and unfamiliar with. The best thing to do during the test is read each question thoroughly and the answers, take your time and do not worry about what question you’re on or the time. Do not rush. Each right answer you choose will put you closer to that computer shutting off and you passing the test. Kaplan has an awesome strategy called the decision tree which helps you to break down the question and choose the right answer. Good luck.

First of all congrats on passing NCLEX! I agree with you that the Kaplan course is great and the Saunders book is awesome. Missy the advice above is something you will want to follow because I did the same thing and passed with just 75 questions too. Thank you for sharing!
Missy let us know if you pass in June!
