Does nursing school go by fast? Or does it seem like it takes forever to graduate from nursing school?
That’s a great question and I think that it will really depend on several factors. For some students, nursing school will be very tedious and difficult , and it will be a struggle. For others, it may go by very quickly and they may even enjoy nursing school.
Here is a question we received asking if nursing school goes by fast:
I’m entering nursing school for the first time this spring. I was wondering if nursing school goes by fast? Or does it really take a long time? I’m really nervous and I am not quite sure what I should expect.
Thanks!

Does Nursing School Go By Fast?
Thanks for your question Sara. As I mentioned above, nursing school can go by really quickly, or it can drag on for a long time. It depends on a lot of factors. Here are some factors that will affect your nursing school experience:
- Are you in a 2 year (ADN) program, or a 4 year (BSN) program (see the pros and cons of an ADN vs BSN). Obviously a 2 year program will seem to go by much faster than a 4 year program. This can have a big impact on your perception.
- Are you introverted or extroverted. If you are extroverted and make lots of friends and get involved with clubs and have fun, it will go by fast. If you are more of an introvert and keep to yourself, and tend to shy away from clubs, student events and so forth, it may seem like it goes by longer.
- Do you work or have extracurricular activity? If you hold down a job, or have a lot of things going on outside of school, it will probably make it seem like it is going by much faster than if you don’t have a job or have other activities outside of school.
You know, I did a 4 year BSN degree, and there were times when it seemed like it was taking forever. I did hold down a job, and I didn’t often get involved with a lot of school activities, but I did make a few really good friends in nursing school, and that was a lot of fun.
The important thing to keep in mind is that it does take time to complete your education, but once you are done, you are FREE. You can go on to accomplish a wonderful career in nursing. Nursing school will once be a distant memory, and you will likely have a great job with lots of opportunities, and it will be enjoyable.
So if you are one of those students who feel as if it is dragging by, keep pushing forward and it will soon be over. Try to make the very best of your current situation. Enjoy all of those student discounts you get, try to make at least 1-2 friendships, study hard, and try to have fun outside of school.
I wish you the best of luck!
