Looks like I might not get into the school I was planning to attend for my BSN and now I don’t know whether to go to a local community college for an Associates-RN because of the fear of not getting a job because I don’t have a BSN. I really want to be a nurse but I am afraid that I wont get hire due just having an Associates and I cant be without a job….

Hey Ange!
Sorry that you may not be getting into the BSN program but it may be a blessing because it may work out better for you especially expense wise. You shouldn’t worry about not getting a job with a ADN degree because it isn’t true you won’t get a job. Nursing is really shorthanded especially on hospital units and trust me you won’t have trouble getting a job there. If you are worried about it I would look at local hospitals in your area that you want to work and see what the job requirements are. Most job descriptions for nurses just say that you have to have valid nursing license from that state and doesn’t require only a BSN. If you want to be a nurse as bad as you say I would get for it because you will find a job with an ADN degree.

I was hired with a couple of nurses who just had an ADN degree so I know you won’t have trouble finding a job. We were hired on a medical surgical floor. Really you just need a BSN for management jobs but even sometimes if you know the right people and are a good worker you can get these jobs with just an ADN.

Girl go for it! You won’t have any problem finding a job with an ADN. All that matters is that you have RN behind your name….not ADN or BSN.
Myra J. RN, ADN 🙂
