Hello all 🙂
I am posting because I am interested in pursuing an Accelerated Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing, (already have a BA) but I’m not sure if it is the right decision for two main reasons.
1… I ultimately want to attend medical school, but I am not prepared at this stage of my life. I believe becoming a RN would provide me with opportunities to travel and serve in underdeveloped countries, which is what I want and need before starting a rigorous medical school curriculum. For brevity reasons I won’t list the other many benefits I know nursing would offer. But would completing an ABS after my initial BA, allowing time to actually work as a RN, then attempting to become an MD/DO just be too impractical?
2… My student loans from my BA are substantial. I am not under a huge amount of stress, and would be willing to add to the debt to complete a ABS, but I need to be able to make enough money to support myself as well as make my loan payments every month. Would this even be possible overseas? I feel like most of the opportunities for RN’s abroad are volunteer programs (understandably).
Thank you SO much to anybody who can offer me a bit of informed advice. I’m at a pivotal point right now and people like you will help me in unspeakable ways.
