Hello, my name is Taylor and I am currently a sophomore at a university. I have always wanted to be a nurse and i know that is never going to change because that is my passion and my ultimate goal. I recently received a rejection letter from my nursing program at the university i’m attending and am now at a stopping point.
I have no idea where to go from here. My freshman year i had to go to a community college because my mom was sick and so my parents couldn’t pay for me to go to a big university like i am now(things are a lot better). The reason i shared that is because now i am undecided on whether i should get my ADN from my community college or wait another year to apply and hopefully get into the BSN program at my university.
I already have all of my pre-reqs done but i am going to re-take two classes to try and boost my GPA. I am feeling lost because i’m already two years into college and still have yet to start nursing school. Any advice??? I know nursing school is very competitive so i am trying not to beat myself up too bad about not getting in the first time.

Hey Taylor,
I just wanted to chime in and give my two cents. Girl, I just want to hug you because I can just feel the passion you have for nursing but you have road blocks that are preventing you from getting there. We need more nurses and nursing students with your passion 🙂
I would definitely consider going the ADN route since the BSN route is on hold right now. Definitely don’t beat yourself up because the nursing field right now is HIGHLY competitive especially since the economy stinks and nursing is the only degree right now that you can graduate from college and find a job.
If you choose the ADN route they may be able to count some of your pre-req you took at the university because I know that some of the classes are the same such as A & P and micro etc.
Are there any other BSN programs around you that you could apply to?

I would either try other programs in your area with a bachelors or go for the associates. After you get an associates you can always go back and get the bachelors (this is usually a 100% online program). Since you have already completed a lot of pre-req for the bachelors they may count some courses you have already took.
I hope everything works out for you. Sorry to hear you are having a difficult time. There is a nursing shortage so schools need to quit being so picky on the admission process.

These are always difficult decisions. I think that since you have already completed two years at a university that I would try for a BSN program. But if you are really needing the money and don’t have time to wait go for the ADN.
