I received another “ask me a question” and it comes from Marie and here is what she asked:

“Does it matter what hospitals you do your clinicals at? I am starting a Registered Nurse RN program at a University that has 2 Nursing campuses in different cities. They are the same programs, but one is older and has affiliations with more Hospitals, but is smaller and harder to enroll in classes I need. The other is newer, has a larger campus and therefore easier to enroll in the classes I need but because their nursing program is newer they are not affiliated with very many Hospitals.”

Marie thanks for you question. I understand your concern on if you should enroll in the clinicals/classes that are more affiliated with the local hospitals because getting hired will be easier. However, the school I went to was affiliated with the local hospital in my area and many of the students from my school got jobs from the hospital but so did other students who did not attend affiliated schools.

I really don’t think it will affect you but if you are worried about it I would ask you admission office to make sure. When you start looking for a job I would be really aggressive and start early so you can get a position. If you are worried about the opportunities you may get I wouldn’t worry about it because you will probably have access to better equipment and resources than the older school.

Hey Everyone,

I received another “ask me a question” and this question comes from Crystal and here is what she asked:

“Is nursing school to hard for me?

Okay, i have taken a&p1 twice. the 1st time, i had a bunch of family issues and was unable to study, and plus it was hard! the 2nd time the same. I really want this, I finished close to last in my graduating class, and never have i had good grades, except in medical classes [had highest average in medical science 2] so im just torn on whether or not I should try. I think it will be too hard, but i want this more than anything in my life. so yeah.”

Crystal thank you so much for your question. All I want to say is “girl I feel you!” LOL. Anatomy and Physiology is a very hard course …..period. I remember taking it as a freshmen in college and it was my first semester straight out of high school…..a very eye-opening experience lets just put it that way. I remember thinking “oh my gosh this crap is hard” and “how in the world will I make it through this class and then nursing school”.

A & P is hard and when you add  family issues into the mix it makes it even harder. When I took the class there were many people who failed it and had to repeat the course. I don’t necessarily think that because those people failed the class they weren’t cut out for the medical field. I think it just meant they needed to repeat it because it was a little harder for them to grasp at first. Plus you have to consider if you have a bad teacher (which can make or break a student’s grade).  School is different from being out in the real world. The key to getting through school is learning what your teachers expect and what material to study.

I see that you really want this which is the key ingredient to passing nursing school and attaining your Registered Nurse RN. The ones who never become nurses are the ones who gave up when they first failed. I say that when you re-take the course you should avoid your family issues and let them deal with their own problems because you have your future to worry about and you should just concentrate on you…..they should understand. Also, if you find it too hard and you fail your first test I would suggest getting tutor…..they are super great. Many colleges provide them for free!

Overall, don’t give up on something that you want so bad because you feel that you are not “smart” enough or because you find the material to be hard for you. Good luck Crystal and I hope everything works out for you!
