Flying Kites, Studying, Completing Assigments, Early Graduation Present…..

Hey Everyone,

I hope everyone is having a good Friday. I know I am! Yesterday I didn’t have clinicals like I thought I would…. because remember how I was suppose to be with the House Supervisor (who is also a Registered Nurse RN) on Thursday…well since they are doing budget cuts they are cutting some management positions and they don’t want students with them right now because of how everything is going right now (not sure what that means lol). Luckily one of my friends told me that she didn’t get have to be with the House Super on Monday and she found out by showing up at 545am and the House Super told her students weren’t allowed to shadow anymore so she had to go home. I had no clue about this until my friend told me on Wednesday. I would have shown up at 545am (wasting precious sleeping time and gas) to be told to go home. It was good I didn’t have to go because I wasn’t really feeling it but I now have to make up 12 hours. So it looks like I won’t be finishing as earlier as I was hoping!

So yesterday instead of having clinicals I enjoyed the beautiful weather outside. It was sunny, breezy, and around 65′F which made perfect weather for flying kites. I know you are probably thinking “flying kites…how old is she again” but I still have a little piece of inner kid in me. Ben gets a kick out of me flying kites. I bought the kite last year in March on Spring Break for a dollar at Wal-mart. It’s Hello Kitty lol and pink. I love pink…so that is why I mainly bought it. Here are pictures that I put in a slide show of my kite flying.

So as you know graduation is coming up…woohoo! Ben has already given me my early graduation present. I told him that for graduation I want to leave here and do something fun….but I want it to be cheap..nothing too expensive since we are going to buy a house this summer. I have been hinting to him to buy Dollywood Season Passes because I LOVE Dollywood and I haven’t been there is like 4 years. Plus Ben and I have some good memories of Dollywood because it was our first real vacation together when we first started dating. Ben is not good at keeping secrets so he gave them to be early (I think I was pestering him to death lol). We got a good deal on them because we purchased them early and plus on top of that we got all of these coupons (I guess they are giving out good deals because of the economy). When you buy a season pass you get the following with each season pass: 1 Bring a Friend Free, 1 Bring a Friend half off, 1 Bring a Kid Free, One 2 for 1 game coupon. It’s a good deal because we want to take some people in our family with us later on in the year too. So get ready for some blog posts later this year about my Dollywood adventures and some pictures lol!

Well I’m off to be productive today. I hope everyone is doing good! Until next time,

Sarah ;-)

I GOT A JOB and this is FOR REAL & How School is Going!!

Hey Everyone,

I have just been dying to release the news on my new job BUT I didn’t want to just yet until everything was finalized because of the last mishap….remember I was told I had the job as the nurse intern and I just needed to sign the paper work but I never heard a word back and it turned out the position was given to someone else. I was really bummed out about it but it looks like God’s plan was a little different and it turns out to be better than I expected.

So here is the story: Well you know I’m doing my clinicals on a ICU step-down cardiac unit…right?! I was speaking with the clinical nurse manager who manages the floor and she told me to contact the nurse recruiter so me and her could set-up an interview. I told her I loved her floor and would like to work there if she had any positions open. I was a little nervous that she didn’t have any positions open because in December she hired 3 new nurse graduates and I didn’t think she would be hiring anymore for a while but thankfully she was. So the next day I called the nurse recruiter and she scheduled the interview for us. So last Thursday I had the interview and it went great! At the end of the interview she told I had the position but she wanted me to go home and think about it for a day and to call her back if I wanted the job. Of course I called her back the next day and told her I accepted!! Today the nurse recruiter called me and confirmed that I had the job and schedule me to have orientation on March 16th. I’m so excited!!! :-)

I am going to start working as a nurse intern 1 then once I graduate in May I will get bumped up to a nurse Intern 4 (which includes a nice raise) and after I take the NCLEX and pass I get Registered Nurse RN pay (which is definitely a nice raise). I am so happy! I was nervous about getting a job because I hear about all the job cuts and how some nurses are having a hard time finding work. Actually, the two major hospitals where I live cut some jobs but it was jobs that weren’t patient care related (so nurse, doctors, and nursing assistants were safe) but I was still nervous. I just wanted to share the good news with everyone!

School has been going great! Graduation is creeping up and so is that darn exit HESI test. It’s March 27! Everyone pray for me about that one. I have been studying for it so hopefully it will pay off. My clinicals have been going great. I love them. I am getting good with my patient and family communication. I am also finally getting the hang of all the charting that is involved. The key is to not leave anything blank! Overall, school is going great. I hope everyone is doing good! Once I get doing writing this post I am going to get off here and play some catch-up because last week was a super busy week. I didn’t have one day off…I had something to do everyday so now I need to complete some assignments.

Here is the outlook for this week: Monday (today) off, Tuesday (off) need to do some assignments and study for HESI, Wednesday class (8-11am last class cancelled…our instructor gave us an online assignment instead), Thursday (I’m with the House Supervisor at the hospital 545am-615pm), Friday (off), Saturday (off), Sunday (off). Overall, the week looks very good!

Until next time,

Sarah ;-)
