I’m attending a community college and I should be done with all my classes this coming spring. I went to an adviser and she told me there was no way I will get accept to a nursing school with a GPA of 2.5.
She told me I should give up nursing and that is not something I want to do if I don’t have to. Is it possible to go to a school with a 2.5 GPA? What do you suggest to help bring up my GPA as she was no help in that area? Thank you very much.

Great question! First I want to give you some encouraging words: Don’t listen to your advisor! If you want to become a nurse don’t give up just because your GPA may not be “good” enough. Personally, I think your advisor may need to take a class on encouragement lol. I don’t think you should ever tell someone they can’t do something because they don’t have a good enough GPA. There are ALWAYS ways you can bring up your 2.5 GPA.
A 2.5 GPA is the minimum a nursing school would allow into their program and most programs want at least a 2.75. If I were you I would look up nursing schools you want to apply for and see what their GPA requirements are. Most nursing programs have websites with that information. In order to bring up your GPA, you can take some extra elective courses in the summer or retake the courses you have a C or less in. Retaking the course is usually the best way to bring up your GPA…people do it all the time. It will take more time for you and some extra money but you will be able to bring up you GPA and increase your chances of going to nursing school.
But don’t let your GPA hold you back, especially if you have a passion on becoming a nurse. Good luck and best wishes to you!

Thank you so very much I appreciate your kind words. I will look into some schools and see what I need. I never thought about retaking some of my classes I’ll look into. Thank you again it made me feel better.
