Hello my fellow Nurses!
I am honestly so overwhelmed with what I should do! At the moment I attend A Cal State University campus. I am transferring to another CSU campus near my house next fall. I really want to be nurse, at the moment my major is Biology, so I don’t know if I should just stop doing bio and go over to a community college and get my ADN or continue and do the accelerated program of nursing. I honestly just want to become a nurse as soon as possible because it is my passion! Please help me with your advice!!!!

Eman,
Quick question for you…how far along are in your biology degree? If you are almost done (like a year or less) I say go for the accelerated BSN after you graduate with your biology degree because it will take you just as long as with the ADN.
BUT if you just started you biology degree and have like 3 or more years left I would go for the ADN. You will probably have most of the pre-reqs completed for the ADN program. You really need to ask yourself which path is the fastest for you and what you plan on doing with your nursing degree. Do you plan on going on for a masters degree later on or entering management or teaching…if so you may want to go ahead and get the BSN because this will be a requirement for those professions.
Remember if you decide to get the ADN, you can work on your BSN (usually completely online) while you work as a RN. So just because you get the ADN doesn’t mean you are stuck with it. If I knew how far along you were in your biology degree I could answer this question a little better.
Kudos on wanting to be a nurse…it is an awesome, rewarding career!

Hi Petra, I haven’t really started taking many classes for bio yet, I’m finishing up my GE’s at the moment I have only taken about 3 courses for my biology degree 🙂

Thanks for getting back to me Eman. If I were you then I would go for the ADN since you want to become a RN really fast. It is your best option. I will also try to answer your other question you posted as well about BSN and ADN.
